Group Training vs Personal Training~The Answer May Surprise You!

By South Charlotte Macaroni Kid April 25, 2016

Finding a way to workout that works best for you can be challenging, keeping your workout fresh and keeping yourself accountable can even be more of a challenge. Finding an accountability partner is a suggestion that experts recommended to keep you motivated, others often suggest that you work with a personal trainer. Personal training can be intimidating for many people for many reasons but there is a new trend in our area towards small focused group personal training. These sessions offer people of all fitness levels a chance to reach their personal fitness goals in a small supportive group setting. Most of these sessions are limited to 5 people so that the trainer can offer 1:1 support to participants without them feeling like they are on the hot seat for their full work out. Offering training sessions in this manner gives you a chance to workout somewhat independently but still have the support, motivation and spotting that you need without someone being fully focusing on you. Small group training builds in your accountability partners. Focused training like this also offers people who may be scared to take that first step towards getting healthy a place to feel the support of others with the same goals.

E.Z. Smith, owner of Metro Fitness 51 and one of the area's leaders in small group focused personal training shared with us some reasons that this type of training offers the most benefit for clients vs. 1:1 training:

*Small group training is a goal driven process with focused attention from our trainers

*Small group environments make it impossible to "fall through the cracks" like at globo gym's or in large class settings

*No guessing what to do when you walk into the gym... your trainer has your workouts planned in advance and is there to ensure your success

* Functional Movement Assessment to determine each client's strengths & areas for improvement are completed to help set individual goals.

*No matter what age or level of fitness there is a group that is perfect for you
