Free Museum Days in Charlotte

Mint Museum Uptown and Randolph Road: Both locations are open free Wednesday evenings from 5:00-9:00 PM. Both locations offer family friendly areas, the Uptown location has a kids art room and the Randolph location has a fun scavenger hunt that kids can do. In addition, Sunday Funday is another great way to check out the museums. Once a month at one of their museums they offer hands on art activities and educational programming to introduce an artist or type of art. Sunday Funday is from 1:00PM-4PM. Bechtler Museum of Modern Art: Bechtler by Night is held the third Friday of the month from 5:00PM-9:00PM. They have scavenger hunts for kids and a small children’s hands on gallery where kids can draw. They also offer Family Days a few times a year where children get in for free and adults are $4. These special days are centered around a specific theme and offer hands on activities. These dates are listed on our weekly calendar of things to do with kids in Charlotte.

Levine Museum of the New South: Offers free admission on the first Sunday of the month, they are open from 12:00PM-5:00PM.

Schiele Museum: Worth the drive if you haven’t been yet, the Schiele offers free admission the second Tuesday and the fourth Friday of the month all day. They always have plenty of free programming and new exhibits.

Wells Fargo History Museum: Always free to get in! Fun interactive exhibit about Charlotte’s gold mining past and a stagecoach that kids can climb in and out of. They are open M-S 9:00AM-5:00PM and are closed on bank holidays. The museum is located at 401 South Tryon


James K. Polk Historic Site: The Polk homesite in Pineville is always free to visit and offers ample space for kids to run around. Your family will get a peek into life in the 1800’s and learn more about our 11th president. They offer free programming throughout the year.
