5 Things You Need to Know Before You Pick a Gymnastics Studio

By Perfect Balance Training Center August 22, 2016

Have the Olympics made your son or daughter crazy about gymnastics? It has been an amazing year for USA gymnastics, and if you are looking to get your child into gymnastics, Perfect Balance Training Center is here to help you choose the right program for your child and your family. Here are a few things you may want to look for in a gymnastics center:

  1. Find a gym that meets your end goal for gymnastics! Looking for a recreational program for your child to have fun and learn some motor skills? Be sure that the gyms you are looking at have a well-organized recreational program and a knowledgeable staff. Does your child want to eventually be a competitive athlete? Look for gyms that have a competitive program and a good system for mobility from recreational to competitive team!

  2. A clean facility and proper equipment are both important. A clean facility should be important to a gym owner, as children tend to be in the gym for extended periods of time. It’s also important to be sure that they have proper training tools and equipment. Look for trampolines, pits and all of the equipment for the four main events (vault, bars, beams and a floor).

  3. Knowledgeable coaches and staff are vital to any athlete’s success. Ask if the coaches are trained to teach your child’s particular level and is the gym and USAG member program. This ensures that top staff and coaches are USAG certified and have passed their knowledge along to support staff and coaches. Coaches should have a good understanding of each child and their ability levels, and be able to train them accordingly.

  4. Customer service and approachability of the staff should be important to any parent paying for a service for their child! You should be able to ask questions and get sufficient answers from any customer service person at the front desk or from the coaching staff in a friendly and pleasant manner.

  5. The last thing that you will want to look for in a gym is convenience. Is the gym easy to get to? Can you pay and register online? Is there someone available all day that you can speak with in person or over the phone should any issue present itself? If you are brand new to the facility can you participate in a trial class before you commit? What steps do you have to take if you can no longer participate? Decide what is important to you and your family’s needs and make sure that the gym can meet those needs!
