Veracruz Review

By Rebecca Plaisance March 21, 2012

I have been driving my Hyundai Veracruz for almost 7 months now and I am ready to spill the beans and tell you what I think about this car.

The Veracruz is the largest car in the Hyundai line. Seating for 7 (without car seats) and filled with any luxury you could ask for in a car. As a life long Honda driver, I had some preconceived notions about a Hyundai. As a mini van mom, I had some reservations about driving an SUV.  The Veracruz has changed my mind about both of these things.

The Veracruz has some great convinces including memory settings for the drivers seat (which makes my husband happy, he doesn't bang his knees when he gets in after I have driven the car), heated seats, power trunk, fold down third row seating, back up sensors and much more.

The Veracruz is easy to drive, I am not a car girl but I do like the way the Veracruz handles on the road and it is easy to park even in a compact spot. The Veracruz gets decent gas mileage, I would not say it's great but it's about the same as my mini van. I love the way the car drives, it is smooth and has great pick up.

One of the things I loved the most about my van was that I could get into the car when it was raining and buckle in my kids. The Veracruz has enough headroom in the second row that I can still do that and climb into the front seat (I'm 5ft tall so this may not hold true for everyone), my husband who is 6ft has plenty of leg room in both the front and second row. The third row is small, it fits 2 booster seats and my boys have plenty of room for the 2 of them.  Speaking of the third row, my kids were thrilled to see that they can charge their DS back there. It's the little things for my kids.

Storage, I know this is important to anyone with kids looking for a car. With the third row down, the Veracruz has ample storage space. That space is very limited with the third row up. I have 3 kids so the third row is always up in our car and sometimes getting groceries and all of the kids in the car can be tight.
If you have 2 kids there is plenty of room for you, the kids and all of your stuff. The seats in the second row fold down but do not come out so anyone getting into the third row does have to climb over the seat to get into the back row. My kids actually go in through the trunk to get in the back row which they think is the best thing ever!

The whole line of Hyundai cars will surprise you. They are stylish, safe and affordable. In addition to the Veracruz, I did drive the Santa Fe for a day and I loved it! If I had 2 kids I would have bought it in a heartbeat for my husband! It is a great small SUV.
