Introducing Caroline Abbott the new historical doll from American Girl! This year marks the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812. Caroline is a young girl living in Sackets Harbor NY during the war of 1812. Caroline lives an easy and fun life on the water, she enjoys sailing with her father and has dreams of being the captain of her own ship. Caroline is portrayed as independent, brave and inspiring. When faced with the capture of her father by British troops, Caroline shows great courage. American Girl wants readers to come away with the message that you are in control of your life and can make changes in your world for the good of all.
Caroline's story is told in a set of 6 books written by Kathleen Ernst. The author did a great deal of research on the lives of children living in rural New York during the War of 1812 and found that many children were expected to take on the responsibilities of adults. Caroline embodies the traits that children in her time would have had to face and the challenges of the time they lived in.
The doll is beautiful, with soft blue eyes and a sweet smile, your daughter will fall in love with her as soon as she sees her! Additional elements will be available for Caroline including her parlor, a skiff and historically accurate clothing. Caroline comes dressed in her pink dress and with the first book in the series.
In honor of the release of Caroline, American Girl will be launching "Caroline's Share the Hero in You" video contest. Between September 4, 2012-October 31, 2012, girls can upload a 60 second clip about a time that they felt like a hero. Submissions can be uploaded starting September 4 at americangirl/playcaroline.
