When I was little my mom sent me for sewing lessons at a local fabric store. I remember the ladies who taught the classes were cranky and had little patience for my inability to stitch a straight line. Things may have been different for me if I had Susie as my sewing teacher. Susie Zakary is the owner of a great new business Sewtastic. She is committed to making sewing fun for your child. Susie offers weekly classes where kiddos make everything from pajama tops and bottoms, pillowcase with matching pillow for your American Girl doll and just in time for Halloween, a good witch costume. This is only a sampling of the classes they offer. Classes are geared towards children ages 7 and up. The class includes your child’s choice of fabric and an appliqué per sewing project. Sewing really offers your child more then just learning to sew. They will work on math, problem solving and will put their creativity to the test! Susie will teach children basic sewing vocabulary, how to read a pattern, cut the pattern and follow the pattern directions. Sewtastic offers camps, private sewing lessons and special classes for home school groups. Sewtastic classes run for 1 ½ hours and the groups are kept small so that your child gets the attention they need to complete their sewing project. These classes are also a great value, for $60 you get the 1 ½ class, all the fabric for the sewing project and an appliqué for the project. Sessions run for a month and the sense of accomplishment that your child will feel is really priceless. When I first met Susie I was really blown away by this idea, I think it is a really great place for your child to learn some great skills in a warm and inviting setting with a teacher who loves to sew and has the patience to teacher your sweeties how to sew also. These sewing classes are not just for girls! Susie has fabric your boys will love! Sports teams and other fun prints to make pillow cases, pajama bottoms and more!
