Charlotte Latin is an accredited, independent, coeducational, non-sectarian, college-preparatory, day school serving more than 1400 students in transitional kindergarten through twelfth grade on a 122-acre campus in southeast Charlotte. Founded in 1970, Latin’s mission is to encourage individual development and civility by inspiring students to learn, to serve others, and to pursue growth-promoting opportunities. The school community, including students, parents, alumni, faculty and staff, embraces Latin’s mission, core values, and Honor Code.
Traditional by design yet innovative in implementation, Charlotte Latin promotes a strong sense of community, a challenging yet nurturing environment, and a commitment to academic excellence. Latin is a school that values teaching and celebrates learning, which is realized in 100 percent of graduates being accepted to college, including some of the nation’s most prestigious institutions of higher learning.
Students are presented with many opportunities to explore and develop their interests, including leadership development and co-curricular options and a TK–12 community service program that fosters a lifelong commitment to service through age-appropriate activities. Students also are encouraged to explore their world and are supported in this endeavor through the CLS Sister School and Study Abroad Program.
At Latin, parents are welcome participants in their children’s school lives. Many participate in volunteer organizations, such as the Board of Trustees or Parents’ Council. They are often on campus, cheering Hawks’ athletic teams or sharing lunch with a child in Founders’ Hall. In addition, more than 3700 alumni remain connected to their alma mater through the active CLS Alumni Association.
Charlotte Latin School is accredited by and is a member of the National, Southern, and North Carolina Associations of Independent Schools and the N.C. Department of Public Instruction. Latin is the youngest School in America to receive a Cum Laude Chapter and has been named a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence three times by the U.S. Department of Education.
