Road Trip! Don't Miss the Biltmore This Summer!

Kids 16 and Under Free!

July 20, 2015
One of the best things about living in Charlotte is the close proximity that we have to so many amazing places to visit. For years I have promised I was going to visit the Biltmore but I was worried to take my kids, all I could envision was one of my kids knocking something priceless over and setting off alarms. When we saw that kids 16 and under are free all summer long we decided to give it a shot. Biltmore is so impressive when you first pull up, I knew that is was massive but wow, it is so beautiful and the front grounds are begging to be run on.

We have pulled together our tips for making your visit to the Biltmore perfect for your family

  • Buy your tickets in advance, this will cut down on the lines and get you into the house faster
  • Ask for a scavenger hunt at the ticket office, this is a great way to keep the kids engaged while touring the house
  • Spring for the audio tour, they have a special tour for kids and the audio will make a huge difference in your experience and the kids experience in the Biltmore
  • Be flexible, there is a ton of square footage to cover in the house. Kids will want to breeze through some areas and spend more time in some places (like the pool and kitchen)
  • Use the bathroom before you go in, seriously, there are no public bathrooms in the house and it's a long walk back and forth if your kids decide they need to potty on the second floor
  • Pack a picnic! There are plenty of beautiful spaces to spread out and have a snack or some lunch
  • Or check out one of the great places to eat, there are plenty of places to eat near the house and over by the winery
  • Don't miss the winery, yes you can take the kids into the winery, they can sample some grape juice while you sample the wine
  • Stomp grapes! When we were there, you could stomp grapes before heading into the winery, this was a huge hit
  • Visit the gardens, your kids will be amazed at all of the colors and variety of flowers that are in one place
  • Take a hike! There are several beautiful trails that you can explore and that meet a variety of skill levels
  • Don't miss the ice cream, seriously, do NOT miss the ice cream

The Biltmore is so much more than the beautiful house, it is one of the most family friendly destinations we have been to. There is a huge playground, a barn with animals to pet (and some of the coolest variety of chickens and goats I have ever seen), live music in the evenings and tons of adventure outings that you can add on to your visit. If you want to kayak, ride horses, take a Segway and more you can add on several different options to build your Biltmore visit to fit your family. Plan to spend the whole day there, Biltmore is a lot to cover and you're going to have a hard time pulling the kids away! This summer is a great time to escape the heat of Charlotte and head to the cool mountains of Asheville. Kids 16 and under can visit Biltmore for free, we love that the offer is for 2 kids per adult! Sometimes those of us with bigger families can't take advantage of the same great deals but the Biltmore was super smart about this special offer!
