The Ultimate Sleepaway Camp Letter

By South Charlotte Macaroni Kid June 13, 2016
Kids are off to sleepaway camp over the next few weeks. We pack them up with new pens, self addressed and stamped envelops and a hopeful "write soon!" inevitably there is that child who we have no communication from (can you tell I am speaking from experience), no matter how many times you write or email you get nothing. Crickets, not a word. It starts to make you wonder if they lost your child on the last hike. I finally found the solution for my reluctant writer, a fill in the blank letter, here is the letter I sent my son.

Dear Mom and Dad,

Camp is _________________.

Today
we _____________ and ________.

For breakfast I had _____________________.

The best thing to eat is________________ and the worst is ______________.

My counselor is _______________ and _________________.

The lake is (circle one or more) cold smelly warm fun.

Can you please send me________________?

We go to bed at _:_ and get up at _:_

Are you brushing your teeth? Yes or No

Are you putting on clean underwear? Yes or No

Are you actually using soap when you shower? Yes or No

The best activity is _____________ and the worst activity is ___________

This was actually the only letter I got from my son one year at camp, once I sent him a fill in the blank letter I found it to be the easiest way for him to write. As funny as it seems, it actually worked out to be a way to give a kiddo who didn't know what to say or how to say it an easier way to communicate!
