CKN is currently auditioning for summer programming for youth ages 12- 17 years old  The program offers basic studio broadcasting to multi-platform news productions.

Meet Lucas King: 

Lucas is a 9th Grade honor student at Providence High School.  He started the Carolina Kid News (CKN) program when he was in the 6th grade.  He started his love of journalism while on his elementary school news team at Olde Providence Elementary.  During his time with CKN, he has had the privilege of interviewing TV personalities, politicians, sports stars, and business executives to name a few.  He's learned how to produce, film, and direct his own segments on events and places all around the Charlotte area through the CKN program.

In addition to his accomplishments with CKN Lucas is a member of his school's Odyssey of the Mind team, a creative thinking club, for which he's participated since the 2nd grade.  His team has made it to the Odyssey World Finals three times competing against kids from up to 25 different countries.  He is a member of DukeTIP a gifted education program based at Duke University.  Lucas was nominated in elementary school for The Betty Stovall Spectrum of the Arts program. This program offers a unique arts experience for CMS students who are talented in the area of art and drama.  Lucas' love of the arts lead him to acting classes for 3 years with Acting Out Studios.  This acting experience would eventually open the door for the Carolina Kid News program.

Carolina Kid News TV Show (CKN) is a youth-powered news organization established in 2009. The CKN studio and headquarters is located in Spirit Square in downtown Charlotte, North Carolina. CKN provides news, sports, entertainment, and money-saving ideas to Carolina families and nationally.   Our mission is to identify and organize like-minded youth who may be merely interested or have a mild to strong interest in the exciting profession of journalism.  CKN offers a broad spectrum of journalism programs all designed to add fun and an invaluable hands-on experience.

Mentoring programs are available for educators and professional journalists.
 Partners have included Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation, Charlotte Housing Authority, Generation Nation, and a host of private schools, church, and youth organizations.
 
Carolina Kid News broadcast stations have included: Spectrum -21, U-Verse 99, Fox 46, The CW, Disney XD, Nickelodeon, and Cartoon Network.
