Miller Street Dance Academy Summer Camps

Locations in Fort Mill and South Charlotte

By Miller Street Dance Academy February 12, 2023

Miller Street Dance Academy’s four-day summer camps focus on creating a safe environment where children have fun and express themselves through dance. Campers are constantly active and engaged throughout the day with a variety of activities which include games, hand painting, arts and crafts, tumbling, and, of course, dance! With our camps being offered for 3-8 years of age, we split into groups during portions of the day so similar-aged children can be challenged at an appropriate level in addition to having fun.

In these small groups, campers will create their own group cheer. They are encouraged to help their leader create the words and moves to the cheer so they really feel like an important part of the process. Each day, they get to perform their cheer in front of the other groups to help cultivate self-confidence in moving and speaking in front of large groups. Tumbling is another small group activity. This allows our little ones to work on age-appropriate strengthening and coordination-oriented tricks, while our older ones can step into more advanced tumbling.

In addition to tumbling, we work on proper dance technique and moves during our choreography portion of the day. Each day they will learn more and more of a dance combination until it is complete on their final day. On the last day of camp, campers have another performance opportunity when we split into groups and they perform the dance for each other. This helps them, once again, with confidence in performing, but we also highlight the importance of performing.

Summer camp is a great time to build relationships. Campers get to know MSDA’s staff and teachers, as well as make new friends with other campers. With the open format of summer camp versus dance classes throughout the season, teachers have the opportunity to get to know campers better during downtimes like the lunch break, arts and crafts, and hand painting.

If you want your child to advance their understanding of dance and coordination, increase their confidence and gain strength and flexibility, and establish new relationships while having a blast, you've come to the right place.
