Summer is filled with family fun, and for many, it's when you pack up the car and head out of town. Some prefer the beach, others prefer the mountains. I love a unique and fun town along the way. We cover a lot of North and South Carolina spots, but we can't forget that most places in Georgia are an easy drive and there are some really cute towns to check out - particularly with older kids who love a good photo op!
Here are five charming, storybook-like towns outside Atlanta that make for excellent day trips:
Helen, GA
- Highlights: This Bavarian-themed town offers picturesque Alpine architecture, cobblestone streets, and quaint shops. Enjoy tubing on the Chattahoochee River, exploring nearby waterfalls, or visiting during Oktoberfest for an authentic German experience.
Dahlonega, GA
- Highlights: Known for its Gold Rush history, Dahlonega features a charming downtown square with unique shops, historic sites, and excellent wineries. Don't miss the Dahlonega Gold Museum and nearby hiking trails in the Chattahoochee National Forest.
Senoia, GA

Blue Ridge, GA
