Lazy days of summer are upon us, this is the perfect time to teach your kids to fish or treat your teens to fishing poles and some worms to get them out of the house for an old school afternoon. In the state of NC you need a fishing license if you are over the age of 16. The license will cost $16 annually and can be purchased online at this link. In addition to fishing, you can hike and camp. McDowell Nature Preserve also offers tons of ongoing programming for kids of all ages.
Reedy Creek Park and Nature Preserve
Reedy Creek Park has three ponds and a fishing pier, they also offer ongoing programming and summer camps. You can spend the day at Reedy Creek and do more than just fish!

Colonel Francis Beatty Park
In addition to fishing, there are great sun shaded playgrounds, kayaking, canoeing and soccer fields.
Squirrel Lake Park
Fishing, disc golf and walking trails are available at this park.
Waxhaw
Cane Creek Park
In addition to fishing there is a beach to enjoy, mini-golf and pedal boats.
