This is not a Celine joke—these tests are really making a comeback! Early data shows that students submitting test scores with their college applications for the Class of 2025 has increased by almost 10% compared to last year, and that’s before regular admissions decisions! π±
Here’s the scoop on what’s happening:
π The SAT:
- The SAT has undergone a drastic makeover. It’s now an adaptive, shorter test with just 98 questions (down from 154). The catch? Many students are finding it more difficult.
- The next national SAT test date is March 8, 2025, marking one year since the new format launched.
- With fewer questions, there’s less room for error—every question matters!
π The ACT:
- The ACT is also modernizing, but with less dramatic changes.
- National online ACT testing will roll out in April 2025, while paper testing will still be an option.
- Big news: The Science section will become optional! This starts in April for digital tests and in September for both paper and digital formats.
- The number of questions in the English, Math, and Reading sections is also being reduced.
Not only are we monitoring these changes, but can proudly, in my nerdy way, with my poor eyesight, say that I have taken the English and Reading portions of the new test digitally and the changes are not nearly as drastic as the SAT changes. In addition, the test remains linear, not adaptive, which makes it even better in my mind!
β¨ Why Does This Matter?
Testing is making a comeback, and colleges are paying attention. These updates could impact how your student preps and performs—so it’s time to strategize!
π Key Local Dates:
- North Carolina 11th graders will take the ACT in March.
- York County, SC 11th graders can take the SAT or ACT in March or April, depending on their school district.
π― What Can You Do Now?
If you haven’t started prepping yet, now’s the time to dive in! These changes mean that staying ahead is more important than ever. Whether your student loves the idea of a shorter test or prefers the more traditional ACT format, preparing for these changes is key to success.
Keep following us for updates as these changes roll out—and maybe a little encouragement, because we know testing season can be stressful! π
