Playhouse provides an ideal environment for kids to build confidence, explore their creativity, and make lasting friendships. Tailored for ages 4 to 18, our engaging themed camps immerse campers in the world of theatre, music, and storytelling, guided by experienced instructors who love sharing the magic of the performing arts. Parents can choose from full-day and half-day options throughout June, July and August, offering flexibility for busy summer schedules.

30 Years of Matthews Playhouse Summer Camp
Matthews Playhouse produced Snow White as part of their first summer camp in 1995.
This summer is extra special as it marks THIRTY YEARS of Summer Camp at Matthews Playhouse! Founded in 1995, Matthew’s Playhouse began with just a handful of families who were driven to bring the performing arts to the Matthews, NC area and were willing to volunteer their time to help build a theater. That first summer, the inaugural camp lasted just three weeks. Today, our summer camp spans three months, welcoming nearly 1,000 campers each year and earning recognition as one of the premier summer theater programs in the region. We've come a long way in 30 years, and we couldn’t be prouder of the thriving arts community we've built!
Now, a second generation of children is taking the stage at Matthews Playhouse, following in the footsteps of parents and grandparents who once volunteered, performed, or took classes here. Our alumni have gone on to Broadway, and become producers, professional opera singers, Hollywood costumers, and makeup artists. Others have pursued careers as doctors, school principals, lawyers, and ministers—proving that the skills learned here extend far beyond the stage. We are incredibly proud of our Matthews Playhouse family and grateful to have played a role in shaping the lives and success of so many!
● Expert Instruction – Our instructors include directors, choreographers, and musical directors who work professionally in musical theatre, bringing real-world experience to every camp session.
● Exciting Themed Camps – We’ve expanded our offerings to include fun, engaging themes like Wicked, Beetlejuice, Hamilton, Taylor Swift, Trolls, Moana, Paw Patrol, The Greatest Showman, Inside Out, Harry Potter, Descendants, Wizard of Oz, and Frozen, just to name a few!
● Neurodivergent & Sensory-Friendly Option – The KiDS (Kids with Disabilities in the Spotlight) Camp, running June 16-20, 2025, provides children with special needs a unique opportunity to engage in the performing arts while developing social skills in a nurturing, inclusive environment. Designed for children on the autism spectrum and those with cognitive or developmental disabilities, the camp features small class sizes (maximum of 15 students) and is led by experienced specialists who offer personalized support.
● Performance-Focused Intensives – We’ve introduced Acting and Musical Theatre Intensives for students looking for a more professional, performance-driven experience.
These sessions are perfect for aspiring performers who want to refine their skills and take their passion for musical theatre to the next level.
