10 Games You Can Play Through Zoom

By Mary Baer May 1, 2020

With school being closed for the rest of the year and the stay at home order still in place I’m sure everyone’s kids are missing their friends. We have rounded up some fun and creative ways they can spend time together. Here is our list of 10 Games to Play Over Zoom.

  1. Scavenger Hunt

One fun idea is to have a virtual scavenger hunt! One person can tell others what to gather. The one who gets it the fastest gets a point! You can do this with as many people as you want. Some ideas to get you started are something yellow, a piece of fruit, or an item that begins with the letter “P”. Try to come up with some!

  1. Bingo / Netflix Bingo

You can play Bingo over zoom using this website created in response to the Coronavirus outbreak! It allows you to customize Bingo cards and fill them out for free for under 30 people. A fun way to mix it up is to make the cards based on a Netflix show! Your kids can watch the show and try to find something in the show that matches your customized card. You can easily watch Netflix with your friends over a webcam by using the website Netflix Party

  1. Just Dance

Just Dance offers a desktop version of the game! Your phone acts as the controller while you dance! Zoom while you dance and see who gets the highest score!

  1. Name, Place, Animal, Thing

This game is easily transferable to video chat. You start by picking a letter. For each letter, you have to come up with a famous person’s name, place, animal, and a thing that starts with the letter. Whoever types it in the video chat first wins!

  1. Scattergories

If your child and your child’s friend already own Scattergories they can play together using their own category cards and answers sheets. But if that is not the case there is a free online version! The website is called Categories Game. You choose a category and then have 1 minute to come up with a word that starts with the selected letter and fits the category. You get more points the more obscure your word is (while still fitting the rules).

  1. Charades

Charades is probably the easiest game to play on zoom on this list! Split the video call into two teams and charades generator to come up with the topic. The other team can time a minute while the actor’s team tries to figure out the phrase.

  1. Heads Up!

I’m sure many of you have seen this game before! It was created by the people at the Ellen Show! You have to describe the words that the other player is holding on their head. You can play this just as you would in person since the camera will show the word on your phone!

  1. Pictionary / Skribbi.io

You can play Pictionary using the draw feature on zoom and a word generator. The word generator will tell you what to draw and your friend can time 1 minute for you to draw it. If it is guessed correctly, they receive a point. You can also play Skribbi.io which is the same as Pictionary but done through a website! Create a game and share the game link with everyone in the Zoom!

  1. Karaoke

So fun and easy! Just look up a Karaoke version of any song on YouTube. Sing and have a Karaoke battle with your friends! (Or can easily be a lip-sync battle!)

  1. Jackbox Games

Jackbox Games has so many fun and exciting games to play in groups! It costs 12.49 for a Party Pack which includes 5 games! You can share your screen through Zoom and friends can play together on their smartphones!

It’s important that we all keep in touch and laugh with our friends during this! I hope this list helps add some creativity to your Zoom calls. Happy Zooming!
